Brinkerhoff Laundry

The inspiration for this photograph is Edward Hopper's Nighthawks; this laundromat in my hometown of Plattsburgh, New York, has always reminded me of Phillies diner from the painting. By placing a subject in the photograph, dressed as a man from a different time period, I seek to evoke the mood of the original painting as well as to suggest a kind of melancholic absorption within the scene.
