Jessica Penagos is an artist residing in Long Island, New York. Penagos earned her B.F.A. in Textiles at the Fashion Institute of Technology and went on to work as a textile and rug designer. After several years at ABC Carpet she transitioned from creating rugs for the home fashion industry to a fine art practice where she explores deeper themes of texture and space.
My work seeks to reclaim and recontextualize traditional forms of women's work, elevating them from the realm of the domestic to the realm of fine art. Through meticulous craftsmanship I creates pieces that transcend mere decoration, inviting viewers to contemplate the historical and symbolic significance of the subject in shaping notions of femininity, labor, and identity.
