Liz Leggett's drawings and paintings have been exhibited internationally and she has been awarded artist residencies in France, Israel, Spain, the Pyrenees, Nova Scotia, New York and Connecticut. She received a BA from Skidmore College and MFA from the Maine College of Art. Beyond her studio practice, she has curated numerous shows, such as Marilyn Minter SMASH, PUNK is Coming, and World Peace. She is the former Director of Exhibitions at MoCA Westport and now works as an independent curator and Studio Director for an internationally renowned artist. She lives and works in Westport, Connecticut.
These drawings are from a series of recent works that address my experiences, observations and attitudes as a woman in today's world through the use of traditional portraiture. There is a sense of urgency, frustration, comedy, anxiety, speed, power and time in the execution of the work which directly correlates to the immense range of my innermost thoughts and emotions as well as my navigation through every day life.
