Patricia Catanzaro

She has painted in her studio in Park Ridge for more that 40 years.  Before that she worked in Washington D.C., Southampton, NY and Pisa, Italy.  

I have exhibited in group and solo shows, juried shows, at art centers, Rockland Center for the Arts and the Edward Hopper House, Old Church Cultural Center; universities, Montclair State University, Fairleigh Dickenson University; and museums The Parrish Museum, The Bergen Museum and Montclair Art Museum. My oil paintings are in collections across the US and in Italy.

Statement

Oil on canvas is my primary medium.  For me, composition is the most exciting part of the painting experience. I consider composition to be the most exciting part of the painting experience, looking upon each painting as a puzzle to be solved with color and composition working together to produce a unified whole. The initial idea of theme is quickly subordinated to the influence of design.  Therefore many times my first creative impulse arrives at an unforeseen destination upon completion of the painting.  This is the challenge and the fun!
